What are the Best Restaurants in St Anton?
July 5, 2019 by F-J Charton
St Anton, known as the aprés ski capital of the Alps for it’s wild party atmosphere and famous bars such as the Mooserwirt and the Krazy Kanguruh is often overlooked for not having the quality dining establishments as neighboring Lech. This however is not the case! I caught up with Andy Butterworth, the director of Chalet Eden Rock, one of the large luxury chalets in St Anton to discuss some of his favourite restaurants in St Anton.
Andy and his team make sure all guests have the best restaurant reservations secured and that they have best tables too. Andy has kindly provided us with a number of the best restaurants in St Anton, on the slopes and the surrounding area that are guaranteed to get your mouth watering!
Best St Anton Restaurants for Lunch;
Situated at the top of the super-modern Galzigbahn is the Verwallstube, one of St Anton’s finest gourmet eateries. From here one can either dine inside or out and take in the amazing vistas overlooking St Anton and the Rendl mountain. Diners here can be treated to many local delicacies or Andy’s recommendation of the Truffle pasta or the fresh Dover sole. As a mountain restaurant they are mainly open during the day, however they offer gourmet candlelit and piano accompanied soirees on Thursdays when most of the chalet staff are off. Clearly one of the best restaurants in St Anton!
The Rodel Alm is a lovely restaurant located towards the base of the Nasserein on the Fang piste. The Rodel Alm is know for having great food with generous portions, ideal for the skiier looking to re-fuel after a hard morning skiing the Arlberg ski area. The inside is very cosy and great for snow days, however the sun terrace is the place to be on a warm spring day sipping a cold, crisp local beer. The pork knuckle is the house special and covered in delicious crackling.
Perhaps one of the most famous places to visit on your luxury ski holiday to St Anton is the Hospiz Alm in St Christoph, just above St Anton. Easily reachable via the Galzigbahn and the blue 64 piste, the Hospiz Alm is famous for both it’s exceptional cuisine and it’s wine cellar. It is home to the biggest collection of large bottles of Bordeaux in the world. Having had the VIP tour myself it is something to behold. The cuisine ranges from traditional Austrian to surf and turf. Well worth a visit!
Best St Anton Restaurants For Dinner;
Known for having the best steaks in town Hazienda is the go to choice for lovers of all things steak! With different cuts and speciality meats Hazienda has a reputation as being one of the best restaurants in St Anton and has the number 2 spot on Trip Advisor. Just look at that fillet!
If you are looking for a gourmet burger in St Anton then look no further, Galzig BistroBar has arguably the best in town! Located just next to the Galzigbahn lift and open throughout the day this is definitely not to be missed for any burger lover. The evening menu is simple yet refined offering classics such as Barbarie Duck breast and rack of local lamb.
Perhaps the finest and most sophisticated restaurant in St Anton is that of the 5* Hotel Tannenhof in the Nasserein area of the resort. The food on offer is exquisite, Andy describes it as “The Ultimate in fine dining, a culinary treat.” The restaurant has an English head chef, James Baron who has a great reputation and worked at many Michelin starred establishments.
His signature eight-course tasting menu, for instance, pairs duck liver with quince and Perigord truffle; pikeperch with black salsify; veal with mandarin; and sea buckthorn with carrot and blood orange. The food is prepared and presented in a very modern fashion, some dishes are even served with dry ice but still remaining true to local produce where possible.
