Before Megeve became the in demand ski resort that it is now, it was a very peaceful and traditional French market town. Megève, from the Celtic name “Mageva” which means the village on water, was the ideal place for farming and much of that farming heritage still remains.
Megeve offers its guests a welcoming and traditional French experience blended with new age wealth and desirability. The high street is now a haven for designer brands such as Hermes, Napapijri and Vuarnet alongside Michelin starred restaurants Flocons des Sel and Le 1920.
Although still a relatively new tourist hot spot, Megeve does offer a wealth of activities other than skiing. Along with the luxury shopping boutiques, and fine dining of course, Megeve also offers sleigh rides, a cinema and a wealth of history, culture and architecture to explore.
Sitting at an altitude of 1100m, Megeve’s highest peak is Mont Joly at 2,353m. Megeve itself offers 320km of piste spread over 3 areas – Rochebrune, Mont d’Arbois and Jaillet, the latter being connected at their bases by cable car. Combined, these areas form the Evasion Mont Blanc and are just a small part of ‘Ski Pass Mont Blanc’ which gives access to a wealth of skiing throughout a dozen resorts in the area, including Chamonix. Geneva airport is only an hour away, which makes Megeve an incredibly desirable and easily accessed resort.
