Forget thermal layers, forget about wearing a snood and you can certainly forget about those hand warmers! When you go skiing in the spring, it’s usually warm enough for just a t-shirt under your ski gear and a lot of the time, you’ll even want to ski with your jacket open. No more frozen fingers and numb toes, with spring skiing you’ll be basking in the beautiful sunshine on the chairlifts and will need a lot less hot chocolate stops to warm up!

With many resorts open well into April, you’ve still got time to make the most of the rest of the ski season and the fantastic snow conditions. That being said, you’re best to go to a high-altitude resort to guarantee good snow in case there isn’t a late season dumping like last year. Val Thorens is the highest resort in Europe with the lifts rising to 3,200m meaning great snow coverage even in the spring. In Zermatt, you’ll find the highest ski resort lift access point in Europe which guarantees some fantastic late season skiing! Back in the French Alps, Tignes has high-altitude skiing on the Grande Motte glacier, allowing it to remain open nine months of the year!
No queues for the lifts and the whole piste to yourself – absolute bliss. In the busier months of the ski season, like January and February, this is usually rare. However, when you go spring skiing you can expect this nearly every day of your holiday! Spring is also a great time for beginners and families as they will have the whole slope to play around on without having to worry too much about other people flying past.
