Is Courchevel the Best Ski Resort in the World?
March 7, 2023 by Nicole Shering
Renowned as one of the best luxury ski resorts in the Alps, Courchevel attracts clientele from all over the world. Many families and groups of friends look to spend their ski holidays in Courchevel each year. Offering world-class skiing, high-end restaurants and extravagant five-star accommodation, this luxury ski resort in the French Alps provides the very best experience to its visitors. There are several reasons why so many take a luxury ski holiday in Courchevel 1850 and I was lucky enough to experience some of these first hand in December. Here’s an insight into the highlights of Courchevel 1850…
One of the first things on everyone’s mind when planning a ski holiday is the excitement of choosing accommodation, and this aspect of the trip is one of the reasons Courchevel stands out in comparison to others.
Luxury accommodation in Courchevel is in a world of its own. With many chalets and hotels spread throughout the resort, it can be hard to determine the differences. Luckily for you, this is where we step in to help. There isn’t much you can’t have in Courchevel for an incredible ski holiday. Luxury ski chalet features in Courchevel include, but are by no means limited to, private swimming pools, in-house nightclubs, cinema rooms, wellness facilities and everything in between. You name it, you’ll find it in a Courchevel chalet!
When in resort, I viewed a range of chalets and hotels which are amongst the most luxurious in our entire portfolio. Here are a few favourites, which will each make a great getaway for a ski holiday in Courchevel 1850.
Chalet Hidden Peak is one of Courchevel 1850’s treasures, ticking every box. As part of the K2 Palace hotel and chalets, guests are presented with their own private facilities and team of staff, whilst also having access to the K2 Palace Hotel facilities. It’s the best of both worlds.
I was lucky enough to stay at the K2 Palace Hotel and experience the service, rooms and amenities on offer. They were exemplary. Not to mention the fantastic ski access too. You can leave the boot room and ski to the Cospillot piste, just a few metres away, accessing the Courchevel and wider Three Valleys ski area in no time.
Hidden Peak is one of 6 Le K2 Chalets for rental. The others are Abruzzes, Baltoro, Karakoram, Panmah and Muztagh. Each offer the same high level of service and access to the K2 Palace Hotel, whilst showcasing their own unique style and character.
Connected to Hotel Les Airelles, Chalet 1946 is a the perfect combination of a private luxury chalet holiday, with the added advantage of access to 5* hotel facilities. Sit back and relax as everything is taken care of for you in this luxury chalet in Courchevel 1850. With its own exclusive wellness facilities, cinema and games room, there is so much to entertain the whole family.
Not only does Les Airelles Chalet 1946 offer exceptional facilities and wellness, the service is next level. Indulge in delights created by your private chef or enjoy dining out experiences at a selection of partner mountain restaurants.
Chalet Bacchus, in the up and coming Courchevel Moriond, also poses a tempting option for a luxury ski holiday in Courchevel. Located piste-side of the green Belvédère run, starting your day skiing in the Three Valleys has never been easier! Chalet Bacchus benefits from all the superb facilities a top quality chalet offers, whilst being a short drive or ski from Courchevel 1850. Luxury wellness facilities, such as an indoor swimming pool, two hot tubs, a sauna and much more, are sure to offer an inviting retreat on your return from a day skiing in Courchevel.

Courchevel Skiing
Courchevel is situated within the Three Valleys, the largest connecting ski area in the world, providing 600kms of runs to explore. It’s not just the glitz and glamour of resort that attracts people to a luxury ski holiday in Courchevel 1850; one of the reasons Courchevel is so popular is because of the ski slopes themselves! Many of the luxury ski-in, ski-out chalets in Courchevel 1850, and even hotels, are situated on the highly sought after Bellecôte piste. The Bellecôte is a gentle green run leading to the resort centre and is the perfect easy start for your day’s skiing in Courchevel 1850.
Courchevel is one of the best resorts for beginner skiers, with wide and gentle pistes that are well-groomed for perfecting technique and gaining confidence. Equally, Courchevel is a playground for intermediate skiers, who will find plenty to enjoy and challenge their abilities. For anyone who likes a challenge, my recommendation would be to head to the freeride snow parks, or ski the Eclipse black piste, which featured in the 2023 World Cup Ski Championships! More on this to follow.
Restaurants in Courchevel 1850
If you’re more concerned with satisfying your taste buds and experiencing local cuisine, look no further than Courchevel 1850’s best restaurants. With no fewer than 8 Michelin-starred restaurants in Courchevel, this flavourful ski resort boasts far more than just skiing and luxury chalets…
We’ve already established a number of the best Michelin Star Restaurants in Courchevel, however there is one recent addition that I was lucky to experience exclusively before they welcomed guests. L’Altiplano is the first Peruvian restaurant in Courchevel. Granted 2 Michelin stars, it’s a gastronomic discovery, offering a unique spin on upscale dining. It incorporates classic chargrilled flavours with fresh ingredients, sourced from artisan producers and sustainable farms, for the chef to create a range of delectable dishes across multiple sittings.
After experiencing the culinary delights at this Courchevel restaurant, you may be inclined test out the original L’Altiplano restaurant, situated in the K2 Chogori Hotel in on of France’s other top resorts, Val d’Isere.
After indulging in the culinary mastery from numerous Michelin star restaurants in Courchevel, La Saulire is a recommendation for a relaxed setting in central 1850. Featuring traditional interiors, decorated in a true mountain style, the restaurant exhibits an authentic and inviting setting. Head chef Benoît Redondo, is extremely talented and renowned for incorporating black truffle into a variety of his dishes. The famous Savoyard fondue with Périgord truffle was a personal favourite of mine – it was delicious!
Courchevel not only delivers on restaurants in resort, but excels in its choice of slope side restaurants. Bluebird ski days provide the perfect excuse to sit on a restaurant terrace for hours, soaking in the sun, whilst appreciating excellent cuisine. A great example of this is Cave Des Creux, which sits at an altitude of 2,112m, and benefits from a large terrace and panoramic views across the Three Valleys and Mont Blanc. Originally a home to shepherds, it’s now run by young, local former ski instructors. Implementing regional specialties, quality products, fish, and Asian fusions, this is a fantastic lunch spot for your ski holiday in Courchevel 1850.
Courchevel for Shopping
Shopping in Courchevel is an enticing experience, and another reason why many head on a ski holiday in Courchevel 1850. It offers something that other resorts don’t… boutique stores and designer brands including the likes of Louis Vuitton, Dior, Gucci, Fendi, Moncler, and so on. With exclusive winter collections on offer, the desire to head to Courchevel to complete your winter outfit or purchase something limited edition is incredibly high. You can see why Courchevel is one of the best ski resorts for shopping…!
